St. Vincent’s Private Hospital has a commitment to support our staff to continuously develop and to be their best. The hospital provides on-boarding, on-the-job and continuous education and training opportunities for all staff. In addition, the hospital encourages the personal and professional development of its staff through higher and further education and the attainment of job-related qualifications.

Induction and On-boarding

All new hires are given a full induction training to ensure that they have an understanding of the hospital, their department, and their individual duties and responsibilities. During the induction period staff receive training designed to build the knowledge and skills necessary for their job role. In addition, all staff are required to complete mandatory training in Hand Hygiene, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, and Radiation Safety, as well as training specific to their job role.

Upskilling and Professional Development

Staff taking further or higher education courses related to their job role can apply for financial support and paid study or examination leave. The hospital also provides opportunities to staff for upskilling and professional development training in areas such as leadership and management, health and wellbeing and ICT skills. Training is delivered both in-person and online and the hospital facilitates regular Lunch and Learn events to share knowledge between departments

EduCare Online Learning Platform

All staff are given access to SVPH’s online learning platform EduCare. The platform is available on desktop and mobile devices and provides a central hub for online learning including mandatory training and free e-learning courses covering topics such as Leadership, Communication, and ICT Skills, as well as recordings of hospital events and Lunch and Learns.

Nursing Graduate Programme

Our nursing graduate programme offers newly graduated nurses the opportunity to grow and succeed in a demanding and supportive environment. This programme provides newly qualified nurses with; comprehensive training, progression opportunities into both specialist roles and management. As well as offering supports for further education and qualifications. In addition to this our graduate nurses will have to opportunity to work in a JCI accredited hospital as part of a multi-disciplinary team with access to state-of-the-art equipment. Matched with the countries best staff-to-patient ratios.

Leadership and Management Programmes

Staff have the opportunity to apply for one of two accredited management programmes delivered by University College Dublin (UCD). The Leadership and Management Development programme is for current managers, while the Management and Professional Development programme is for staff who aspire to become a manager in the medium term. The programmes are tailored for healthcare staff and delivered onsite at St. Vincent’s University Hospital.

NCHD Training Grant

A Training Support Grant is available to Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) to support their education, training and professional development needs. Full-time NCHDs can apply for funding of up to €3,000 per annum to cover the costs of a course, exam or conference that is relevant to the work in which the Registrar / Research Fellow is involved.

Library

All hospital staff can access onsite and online library resources. The library is located in the Education and Research Centre (ERC) of St. Vincent’s University Hospital. Resources include books, e-journals, databases and remote online access.
