Ms Thornton is a UCD Associate Clinical Professor.

Over the past 12 years, Mona has worked both nationally and internationally at Consultant level, before she returned to Dublin in 2021 and during this time has developed a special interest in the management (medical and surgical) of patients with inflammatory sinus disease. She has been involved in the development of common care pathways for patients with chronic asthma/ sinus disease.  She introduced nasal polypectomy under local anaesthesia in 2019 and continues to develop this new area of surgery. She is a Co-Founder and current President of the Irish Rhinologic Society and ex RCSI course director for postgraduate sinus surgical training 2015-2022. She also provides balloon sinus surgery, endoscopic DCR / orbital decompression and functional septorhinoplasty for complex structural abnormalities of the nose including nasal valvular disorders.
