About this cancer treatment
The goal of this treatment is to destroy the cancer cells while minimising the harm to nearby healthy tissue. In certain cancers, radiation therapy may be used as the main treatment.
In 2018, SVPH became the first hospital in Ireland to introduce new high technology which removes the need for permanent skin markings. This high precision technology called Surface Guided Radiotherapy offers an alternative to tattoos by using a 3D optical scan of the body surface to set up and verify the patient’s position as well as reducing unnecessary dosages.
