The GP Referral Emergency Department is designed to streamline urgent care for patients referred directly by their GP. This service offers quicker access to hospital-level care for conditions that require attention but are not life-threatening.

  • Mon to Fri, 8am - last appointment 4.45pm & Saturday, 8am - 2.30pm last appointment
  • Closed Sunday & Bank Holidays
  • Strictly Over 16’s
  • Please note: The minimum fee for the Emergency Department is €250 and the maximum fee is capped at €695 (**excluding CT & MRI Scans)

How a GP can Refer? 

  • Complete a Healthlink E-Referral for St. Vincent's Private Hospital / Emergency Dept. 
  • ED Consultant / Senior nurse screens for suitability.
  • If suitable, patient is contacted to confirm insurance and offer appointment time.
  • If not suitable, ED Consultant / Senior nurse calls the GP to clarify, and then patient, to advise of this.
  • In the event that the patient cannot be seen that day, ED Consultant or Senior nurse calls GP to clarify if suitable to wait.
  • The patient will be contacted and given an appointment time to attend.
  • Patient attends at the given appointment time.
  • Discharge letter returned to you the same day.

 


Inclusion Criteria

Patients referred by a GP with:

  • Minor injuries that may require imaging.
  • Soft tissue injuries needing assessment.
  • Abdominal pain requiring further investigation.
  • Non-life-threatening chest pain.
  • Unresolved infections not responding to GP treatment.
  • Urgent medical conditions needing same-day hospital assessment.
  • Patients requiring urgent blood tests, IV treatment, or imaging (as advised by GP).

Exclusion Criteria

This service is not suitable for:

  • Pregnant patients
  • Walk-in or self-presenting patients
  • Life-threatening emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, stroke, severe trauma)
  • Patients under 16 years of age
  • Mental health crises requiring specialist intervention
  • Patients needing ambulance transport without prior GP referral
  • Complex medical conditions requiring full Emergency Department resourcing
