SVPH is one of the leading hospitals in Ireland in its compostable product offering.
This week, 26 July, was Going Green week in St Vincent’s Private Hospital. We decided that 2021 is the year for change and the year that we as a workplace will have a strong focus on Going Green, because Clean and Green is our Perfect Dream.
This is why we have converted all of our plastic takeaway containers from our Restaurant, Coffee Dock and SnacknGo to be fully compostable.
This means that within 12 weeks, all of our takeaway food packaging is turned into compost/fertilizer.
To start the week off, on Monday 26 July we welcomed Niamh Clonan from Thornton’s Recycling into the hospital. Niamh gave staff presentations on how we can make a difference to protect our planet. This provided staff with the opportunity to ask questions about specific products within the hospital and where they should be disposed of.
We then launched an educational quiz with staff on Tuesday in which over 300 people took part in. It was great to see this level of engagement among staff. The quiz educated staff about which products from the restaurant go into which bin, and how staff can make a difference and be the change.
We wanted to end this week by saying a huge thank you to everyone who got involved in our Going Green campaign. It’s great to see how far we have come as a hospital. A special thank you Thornton’s Recycling and Reuzi for their help and support with this initiative.
