Ears and Otology
All aspects of general and neuro-otology are treated within the hospital. Patients can be referred for microsuction of wax, or otitis externa at the same time as the initial consultation.
Similarily, ear drum perforations, chronic infection, cholesteatoma, mastoiditis, tinnitus, hyperacusis, and hearing loss are also assessed.
Minimally invasive endoscopic ear surgery for conditions such as ear drum perforations and cholesteatoma is also performed by this team at the St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group, and we remain the only centre in Ireland undertaking such surgery. This technique obviates the need for the traditional large scar behind the ear.
Vestibular disorders such as vertigo are thoroughly investigated by a team with a specialist interest in neuro-otology, with collaborative cross-referral with neurology services.
