Family History Assessment of Breast Cancer
Our team of breast surgeons at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital have an interest in the assessment and appropriate screening of women who are at an increased risk of developing familial forms of breast cancer.
This service allows patients with a high risk of developing a familial form of breast cancer to be seen and appropriately managed, either conservatively with screening, or surgically. Patients are seen by both a breast and plastic surgeon to allow for risk reduction surgery with immediate reconstruction to be offered, where appropriate.
Our clinical psychologists also play a significant role in preparing patients with known genetic mutations for surgical intervention. Reduction of ovarian cancer risk is also addressed, with the availability of laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy as a day case procedure within the unit.
