Gastroenterology and Dietetics
Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine which deals with the digestive system.
Conditions which affect the stomach, bowel, pancreas, liver and gallbladder fall within this category.
These may include:
- Coeliac disease
- Cancer
- Gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn)
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) e.g. colitis and Crohns disease, gallbladder disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis.
Your GP or consultant may refer you to the dietitian for dietary advice, to assist in managing these conditions.
The low FODMAP diet is now being used to alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms associated with IBS and IBD. An appointment can be made to see a dietitian who is specifically trained in this area.
