About our service
The Haematology service at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital is unique in Irish private healthcare. We are the largest, comprehensive private Haematology service in the country, offering access to 4 consultants – a further 2 to be appointed this year, 1 registrar post and a highly skilled clinical nurse specialist service offering care to our patients 24/7. Our team comprises a multidisciplinary team that delivers comprehensive care in both haematological malignancy, and non-malignant haematology. The service also facilitates the management of surgical patients with underlying bleeding and clotting disorders by providing pre and post operative management plans to optimise their recovery and reduce surgical complications.
Many of our malignant haematology patients require long term follow up post chemotherapy, immunotherapies and radiation. This care is provided routinely for 5 years post treatment and in certain cases can be much longer. This follow up is moving to fall in line with the National Cancer Strategy and NCCP cancer survivorship guidelines.
Multi-disciplinary team meetings form a core role in the diagnosis and treatment planning for patients. There is a weekly histopathology meeting whish discusses all patients biopsies and a bi-weekly radiology meeting to discuss any radiological imaging performed. A fortnightly Lymphoma MDT is also held to discuss new and recurrent diagnosis of all lymphomas. These meetings require the involvement of a consultant radiologist who has expert knowledge in haematological malignancies, a consultant histopathologist, a consultant radiation oncologist, haematology consultants, Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialists and an MDT Co-Ordinator. Patients are subsequently informed of the MDT outcome by clinic appointment or telephone by a member of the haematology team.
