The Ophthalmology Department at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital offers confidential evaluation and treatment for an extensive range of medical and surgical eye conditions .
The conditions evaluated and treated by the Ophthalmolgy Department include the following: cataracts, diabetic eye disease, age related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, glaucoma.
The department offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures including:
- Fluorescein angiography
- Indiocyanine green angiography
- OCT (optical coherent tomography)
- Bscan ultrasound
- Ultrasound Biomoscropy (UBM)
- Digital retinal photography
- IOL master evaluation.
Most procedures are undertaken as day cases. Cataract surgery is undertaken with topical anaesthesia, local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference and surgical considerations for the individual patient.

Patients are usually referred by their GP, medical eye specialists, and other consulting clinician or by their optometrist.
