Mark graduated from UCD and was entered into the Specialist Medical Register as an E.N.T. Consultant after completing the national higher surgical training programme in 2003. During this training he was awarded an MD from University of Liverpool on the genetics of laryngeal cancer.
He then travelled to Toronto where he completed two fellowships, firstly in Head & Neck Oncology at the Princess Margaret hospital. Secondly, he completed a fellowship in Voice disorders in St. Michael's Hospital.
From 2008-2010, he further specialised in all aspects of medical and surgical treatment of voice disorders via a Masters degree in Voice pathology which he completed with a distinction grade from UCL in 2010. He also runs Voice clinics in St. Vincent's University Hospital and The Eye & Ear Hospital.
Mr Rafferty’s sub speciality interests are in Voice and Swallow disorders which includes general hoarseness and the care of the professional voice user. He runs Ireland’s only private Stroboscopy service for assessment of complex voice disorders as well as providing Botox injections for dystonia and other neurological voice conditions. Similarly video swallow assessments are performed with senior speech and language practitioners to provide a day case swallow assessment service. His has research interests are in vocal cord paralysis, Respiratory Papillomatosis and novel surgical approaches to vocal cord scarring. His other key interest is in Sinusitis, Nasal Polyposis and Endoscopic sinus surgery.
