Holter Monitor 1-2 week wait time

The Holter monitor is a small device that records your ECG (heart rhythm) for 24, 48 or 72 hours. You may be referred for this if you have symptoms such as dizziness or palpitations or if you are having a medication review.

This is performed by our highly skilled and qualified Cardiac Physiologists.

No preparation is needed. If possible avoid using creams/moisturisers on the chest and wear loose clothing on top

The Cardiac Physiologist will place some electrodes (harmless stickers) to your chest. They are attached to the monitor with wires. Do not take a bath or shower and do not get the monitor wet. The monitor will continuously record your heart beat all of the time that you are wearing it. Please make a note of the time if you get any symptoms.

Please return the monitor to the Cardiology department after your recording is complete. The Cardiac Physiologist will download all of the information and analyse it. This report will be reviewed by a Consultant Cardiologist. The results will be sent to your doctor within 3-5 working days.

No aftercare is necessary.
