A micturating cystogram is an examination of the urinary bladder and urethra.

  • You will be asked to undress and given a gown to put on with opening to the front.
  • The radiology nurse will insert a catheter before the procedure.

  • For female patients: If you are still of childbearing age please book your appointment within the first 10 day of your menstrual cycle

  • You will be asked to lay on your back for the procedure.
  • The Radiologist will inject contrast filling up the bladder until you can’t tolerate it anymore.

  • The catheter bag will then be removed.

  • The table will be tilted in an upright position.

  • You will be given a urine collection container.

  • You will be asked to micturate into the container while the radiologist uses fluoroscopy to capture the images.

  • You are able to resume a normal day after the examination.
  • The x-ray images will be reported by the radiologist and the results will be forwarded to your doctor within 5 working days.
