A pouchogram / gastrogragfin enema is also known as a water- soluble contrast enema. This examination is often carried out to investigate the distal part of your bowel, where you have previously had surgery.

For female patients: If you are still of childbearing age please book your appointment within the first 10 day of your menstrual cycle.
- You will be asked to lie on your left side.

The radiologist inserts the catheter into the rectum.

Using fluoroscopic guidance, the radiologist allows the contrast to be infused into the rectum and colon.

You may be asked to turn in various positions.

Once the radiologist are satisfied. The enema bag will be lowered to the floor to allow the contrast to drain back into it.

Once the drainage is done the catheter is removed.
- You may experience cramping, increased bowel motion and liquid discharge post procedure.
