We are pleased to introduce our new GP Referral Emergency Department, designed to streamline urgent care for patients referred directly by their GP. This service offers quicker access to hospital-level care for conditions that require attention but are not life-threatening.
Opening Hours:
- Open Mon to Fri, 8am - last appointment 4.45pm & Sat, 8am - last appointment 2.30pm
- Closed Sunday & Bank Holidays
- Strictly Over 16’s
Charges:
An initial fee of €250 is payable upon registration. Additional costs will apply for certain tests, treatments, or items such as X-rays, cardiology tests or blood tests; however, these charges will not exceed a maximum of €695.
** Please note that other diagnostics (e.g., CT or MRI) may incur separate charges unless they are covered directly by your insurance provider.
** Additional charges may also apply for less common tests or consultations with other specialists, such as Consultants or Physiotherapists.
Our Emergency Department administrative team will advise you of charges falling outside the maximum of €695.
How to Access via your GP:
- Attend your GP Appointment.
- Request a Referral & if your symptoms are appropriate then your GP will send a Healthlink E-Referral to the Emergency Dept.
- The Emergency Dept Admin will call you shortly afterwards with your appointment day / time.
✅ Inclusion Criteria
Patients referred by a GP with:

Minor injuries that may require imaging

Soft tissue injuries needing assessment

Abdominal pain requiring further investigation

Non-life-threatening chest pain
-
Unresolved infections not responding to GP treatment
-
Urgent medical conditions needing same-day hospital assessment

Patients requiring urgent blood tests, IV treatment, or imaging (as advised by GP)
❌ Exclusion Criteria
This service is not suitable for:

Pregnant patients

Walk-in or self-presenting patients

Life-threatening emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, stroke, severe trauma)

Patients under 16 years of age

Mental health crises requiring specialist intervention

Patients needing ambulance transport without prior GP referral

Complex medical conditions requiring full Emergency Department resourcing
For these situations, please continue to use your local public Emergency Department.
