Prof. Emmett McGrath
Education & Experience
- 1998 - Graduated from Trinity College Dublin. He completed his early postgraduate medical training in Dublin before undertaking his specialist registrar training in Respiratory Medicine in Sheffield, UK.
- 2005 - Awarded a prestigious Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Fellowship to evaluate the role of neutrophils in inflammatory lung disease. This research led to the award of multiple travel and young investigator awards from the Irish, British, European and American Thoracic Societies, and was awarded a PhD for this work in 2009.
- 2009 -. He continued in the role of NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at the University of Sheffield.
- 2010 - Appointed to an academic post as Senior Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Respiratory Physician at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and the Birmingham Chest Clinic. He was Clinical Lead for Interstitial and Occupational Lung disease at this tertiary referral centre and continued in this role until his return to Dublin.
- 2013 - Returned to Dublin to as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at St Vincent’s University Hospital.
- He is the clinical lead of the Acute Medical Unit in St. Vincent's University Hospital and is an Associate Clinical Professor at UCD. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. He has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications.
- He practices in all areas of Respiratory and General Medicine and is available for direct GP admissions to SVPH.
