Clinical Research & Professional Memberships

  1. Dementia Trials Ireland. Served as the imaging lead and co-applicant for Dementia Trials Ireland (DTI), a Health Research Board (HRB) - funded initiative.  DTI aims to conduct high-quality clinical trials for dementia in ireland, improving the lives of individuals at risk of, or living with, demntia.
  2. Responsive Plasmonics using Biomaterials for Alzheimer's Disease Biomarker Detection, Collaborator on this Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) - funded project.  The project focuses on developing novel, highly sensitive methods for detecting Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in plasma, with the goal of replacing the need for cerebrospinal fluid (cSF) analysis.
  3. Prof. Killeen is the Author of over 160 peer-reviewed publications, a book and three book chapters with over 50 publications since 2020.   His research focuses on clinical guideline implementation, clinical decision support technology, artifical intelligence and neurodegenerative diseases. 

Clinical Interests:

  • Stroke, tumor, multiple sclerosis and demyelination.
  • Spinal Imaging
  • Head and neck cancer, orbital disease including eye ultrasound in choroidal melanoma.
  • PET imaging of neurodegenerative disorders/Alzheimer's type dementia, brain tumor imaging.
  • DAT scanning in movement disorders, Parkinsons and Parkinsons plus syndromes.
  • Brain SPECT/temporal bone imaging, and PET imaging in oncology esp. Head and Neck Cancer.
  • Radiology medicolegal consultation and medicolegal reports related to personal injury and medical negligence.
