About our service

Cardiothoracic surgery involves the surgical treatment of diseases affecting organs inside the thorax – generally conditions of the heart and lungs. Cardiothoracic surgeons also undertake training in the management of chest wall and oesophageal pathologies.

Our Cardiothoracic Surgeons generally perform surgery of the heart and chest and they work with our consultant cardiologists to manage patients and determine whether the patient needs surgery.

For valve, vessel or stuctural repairs, our cardiothoracic surgeons perform a wide range of procedures using open sternotomy or minimal access techniques (through smaller incisions, often through the ribs) including coronary artery bypass graft.
